Standard Drawings & Estimates

This stage covers the preparation of standard design drawings and cost estimates for all LWM solutions, along with capacity building of engineers for site-specific design adaptation.

Step 1

Standard Drawings & Estimates

Standard design drawings and cost estimates are prepared for all technical solutions identified under the approved technical strategy.

On-site Sanitation Systems (OSS)

These designs are suitable for household or small-cluster applications:

  • Soak Pits – ranging from 0.25 to 1 KLD capacity
  • Leach Pits – ranging from 0.5 to 10 KLD capacity

Nature-Based Treatment Solutions

These designs are for larger capacities and community-level applications:

  • Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATS) – designed for capacities ranging from 20 to 500 KLD
  • Waste Stabilization Ponds (WSP) – designed for capacities ranging from 20 to 500 KLD

These standardized designs serve as reference models to ensure:

  • Technical uniformity across villages
  • Ease of replication
  • Cost efficiency
  • Compliance with engineering and environmental standards

Step 2

Engineer Capacity Building

Training programs are conducted for engineers of the State Mission to build their capacity in interpreting and customizing standard design drawings.

The training focuses on:

  • Translating standard designs into site-specific solutions
  • Adjusting dimensions, capacities, and layout based on local conditions such as:
    • Land availability
    • Topography
    • Greywater flow

Through hands-on exercises and case-based learning, engineers gain the technical skills needed to accurately size and adapt structures like soak pits, leach pits, DEWATS, and WSP systems.

This ensures effective and sustainable implementation across diverse rural settings.
